Book: “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo
Marie Kondos’ „The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up“ was my first clearing book I have read. I particularly like the idea of owning only matters we like to transform our homes to a place of energy. We should treat our stuff like living beings, tell them “thank you”, and carefully handle them.
A clearing process is always starting with throwing away all stuff not needed anymore. Kondo suggests to clear up in categories (if stuff is located in different rooms) starting with clothes (including bags and shoes), followed by books, papers, odds and ends and finally mementoes. Each single object should be seen and felt to find out if it still makes happy.
The stuff of which we think to use it again someday should be removed – like “Someday never comes”! And everything which is kept needs a fixed position and shall be stored vertically (if possible). The vertical storage was new for me! Especially in drawers you can create order very easily in this way.
This book invites readers to follow this example and several others to enjoy the resulting tidiness!
